Dominique Davis in Hunt for #2 QB Gig

“Whoever the best backup guy is, whether if he’s a 10-year vet or a rookie, is going to be our backup quarterback,” Falcons coach Mike Smith said after practice on Saturday. “I think you have to go out there and let the play on the field [decide]. … It’s a matter of who plays the best.” Redman and Wilson have not played well during the exhibition season, while Davis, an undrafted rookie from East Carolina, has put together two solid outings.

Falcons Reach Injury Settlement with Michael Calvin

The Atlanta Falcons today announced that they have reached an injury settlement with wide receiver Michael Calvin. Calvin, 6-3, 215 pounds, was signed by the Falcons as a college free agent on May 1, 2012. He played in 37 games with 10 starts and totaled 42 receptions for 528 yards with one touchdown during his career at California.

Akeem Dent Returns to Non-Contact Drills

Falcons middle linebacker Akeem Dent returned to practice and participated in the non-contact drills on Saturday. “It’s feels great to get back out there and get my reps back up,” Dent said. The team is hopeful that’s the last hurdle for him to clear in the league’s concussion protocol program. He was injured in the first exhibition game against the Baltimore Ravens.

It's way early to tell, but Davis has certainly looked better than anyone would have expected.  Would be great to have a solid backup - personally I think the other two guys are bums...

@vantuck I've liked Redman in the past but I think he's clearly regressed over the last year or so. JPW on the other hand has never struck me as a NFL caliber QB.

@CFBZ I just remember when Patrino came to town - and brought Redman in along with him.  That season was already a laughable (when not crying) situation.  Then I read, "...he was selling insurance when called...".  I couldn't believe it.

@CFBZ He's had some shining moments for sure.  I guess I just keep thinking back to the 2009 Eagles game...

@vantuck I agree but Redman did play well when he was called upon in that disastrous year.
