Gil Brandt, Senior Analyst of NFL.com, came out with his power rankings yesterday and he put the Falcons at number eleven. In the NFC, he's got us behind the Packers, Eagles (who he ranks at #3), 49ers, Giants, Saints and Lions. In the AFC, he's got us behind the Patriots, Texans, Ravens and Steelers.
Matty Ice is busy pumping iron to improve our "power ranking"
Here's what he has to say about the Falcons:
Change is afoot in Atlanta with two new coordinators: Dirk Koetter on offense, Mike Nolan on defense -- both upgrades for the Falcons. Matt Ryan needs to take that next step for this team to follow suit. This is a make-or-break season for left tackle Sam Baker. Defensively, the Falcons still need to find a pass rusher. John Abraham turned 34 last month and Ray Edwards just isn't the impact player the Falcons thought they'd signed last offseason.
What do you think about those rankings? Is 11th fair or should we be a bit higher up on that list?
They are about right. Have to do better in the playoffs. We got a Lebron thing going on here. This year is more of wait and see type of deal.
@Macboog Thanks for registering and commenting. I'm not sure it's quite at the level of Lebron (since he's generally thought of as the best player or one of the best players in the league) but I get your point. I guess in NFL comparisons it would be Dan Marino.
Off the top I'm pretty insulted we are at 11th, but I don't think there is too much wiggle room there. I think it would be hard to move us up more than a few spots considering the question marks we have they mentioned.
@mFalcons5 I think Detroit and Philly stand out as teams we should definitely be ahead of but that's just me. Also, the Saints since Drew Brees isn't signed yet.
@CFBZ Until he is on another team, I've got to think the Saints are the better team until we beat them. But man, they are giving a LOT of credit to a team without their HC, and will start of the season with an interim-interim head coach.
I do agree that we should get some level of benefit of the doubt for teams we beat last year that did not make big improvements in the offseason.
@mFalcons5 Especially since in his Falcons points he says we made improvements at both coordinator positions.
