Last week the Falcons put the franchise tag on corner back Brent Grimes. This week they have started out by re-signing safety Thomas Decoud. Terms were not disclosed but the rumor is two years for $5 million. That's a price I can get behind for a guy that has shown some definite talent in the past but is coming off of a lackluster year.
Decoud was part of the very first draft class of GM Thomas Dimitroff way back in 2008. Despite having a lackluster year in 2011, he still had a career high in tackles with 86 and also had a career high in interceptions with 4. It will be interesting to see who is brought in to battle with him for the safety spot opposite William Moore.
Beginning to think we fleeced him, or else his agent would have leaked the numbers 12 hours ago. I feel he is worth $3-4 million a year but I'm really interested to see what Dimitroff thinks he is worth.
The fact that cornerback in your secondary is in the team lead in tackles is never a good sign. Beyond that, my feeling is that we've already seen DeCoud's peak. More is the pity.
@GaSportsCraze I definitely think we saw him peak in BVG's system but I have to think that if Nolan is re-signing him then he sees something in him whether it's as a back-up or as a starter. We can't fix everything in one off-season, if the money is right I have no issue with bringing him back.
